# Disputes

> How a person challenges a Shared Registry entry, and what members do

Every person named in the registry can find out what it holds about them and challenge an entry they
believe is wrong. While a challenge is open, the entry does not match any check.

## For the people named

If a platform refused or held your account and you believe it is because of the Shared Registry, or
if you want to know what the registry holds about your email, contact Omnifence at
[support@omnifence.ai](mailto:support@omnifence.ai). Give the email address and say what you want to
know or challenge.

Omnifence can tell you which categories the registry holds for your email, when they were reported,
and when they expire. If you dispute an entry:

1. Omnifence opens a dispute. From that moment, the entry no longer matches any check.
2. Omnifence asks the member that made the report for its evidence.
3. If the member supports the report, the entry matches again. If it does not, Omnifence revokes the
entry, and it is deleted 30 days later.

Members cannot see your email, and the platform that checked your sign-up does not know which
platform made the report.

## For members

### When a report about you is disputed

Your entry shows `"status": "disputed"` and `"has_open_dispute": true` in
[your list of reports](/registry/reporting#list-your-reports), and it stops matching at once.
Omnifence contacts you at the address you gave during vetting and asks for the evidence behind your
case reference.

* If the evidence supports the ban, send it to Omnifence. When Omnifence upholds the report, the
  entry matches again.
* If the ban no longer stands, [revoke the report](/registry/reporting#revoke-a-report). This also
  closes the dispute.

Reporting the same user again does not end a dispute. Only Omnifence resolves it.

### When your user asks why they were refused

You do not know which member reported the user, and you must not guess. Tell the user how to
contest your own decision, and refer them to Omnifence if they want to know what the registry holds
about them.

### Data requests about your own reports

If a person asks you directly what you reported about them, answer from your own records: your
report and your case reference are your data. Send requests about the registry as a whole, or about
other members' reports, to [support@omnifence.ai](mailto:support@omnifence.ai).
